YUUmmy food at Yuu Japanese Tapas 優

IMG_9567
A few weeks ago, the yummy crew had an impromptu dinner meeting in Richmond. It was pretty late at night, but there is never a lack of good eateries in Richmond. Nabs thought that we would give Yuu a try. Yuu is a small restaurant in the Continental Plaza in Richmond (same as the second Deer Garden, Posh, Pearl Castle, etc.). Their offerings are a mix of contemporary Japanese “tapas” or small dishes as well various Asian mains. They also have quite an interesting dessert section as well.

We arrived around 9:15-30 or so and ended up being the last customers of the night. We were surprised to find that the place closed at 10:30PM every night when most other restaurants in the plaza opened until much later.

$1 McCafe specialty drinks promo

IMG_9622
McDonald’s is back at it with their $1 drinks.  This time the deal applies to their small sized specialty hot coffees from Nov 29-Dec 9.

If you haven’t tried McCafe drinks, you might be missing out!  Currently, their regular coffee is my favourite coffee; yes it has trumped Timmy’s coffee for the time being.  No I’m not joking!  But their regular coffee isn’t part of the promo.

Small sized mochas, americanos, lattes, cappuccinos are fair game though and only hot drinks, no cold drinks.  I have tried their latte and it was pretty good; rich, smooth, and creamy just the way it should be.  I also tried their peppermint mocha which was alright.  This came topped with whip and candy cane sprinkles too.  Not as good as Starbucks peppermint mocha but what the heck, its 1/5th the price!

Head on over to your nearest McDonald’s quick before the promo runs out on Dec 9th.
(Btw, McD coffee cups are the best.  I wonder if anyone else appreciates their double layered design like I do?)

Rocanini–Steveston Village coffee scene

IMG_9556
Anyone who is a frequent flyer to Steveston village in Richmond will have noticed that the area has changed quite a bit in the recent years.  In particular, a high density of coffee shops have opened up in Steveston and some are very large and prominent, such as Waves Coffee House.

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m no coffee connoisseur. Sure I enjoy a cup of authentic, aromatic coffee brewed with freshly grounded beans that haven't been subjected to excessive moisture fluctuations or freezing. More often than not though, I”ll opt for a cheaper fast-food restaurant coffee than a more expensive one from a coffee shop.
